Happy Monday, Hollow Mountain! Normally I do these on Sunday, but since yesterday was Mother’s Day I treated myself with a work/screen break, so here we are with the Monday morning update.
As we begin our third week of workshops we are officially at our midway point in our five-week pilot! It’s been a lot of work, but it’s also been so rewarding and I feel even more dedicated to expanding our programming hearing all of your wonderful feedback.
New workshops this week are: our all-ages Art-Therapy Themed Wellness Group, Anatomy for Curious Kids, Creative Writing, Game Design for Kids & Teens, Babysitting 101, and Apocalypse Survival!
Want a sneak peek into the Apocalypse Survival class? Check us out Tuesday morning on KOLO 8 where we’ll be walking through one of their anchors on everything apocalyptic in the Hollow Mountain Wasteland!
Just as a quick reminder before we get to the schedule, the Hop & Mae Adams Foundation provided a generous donation to Hollow Mountain which has allowed us to provide (in addition to our scholarship fund!) TWO 50% off tickets for every regular-priced workshop through the pilot program! These are on a first-come, first-served basis, so register early to snag your $20 tickets.

Week Two Recap
We had so much fun with our jackalopes last week! On Monday we focused on our friend the Honey Bee and our Kits got to explore and decorate a real-life honey-bee hive, climb around in a hive, listen to the soothing sounds of buzzing bees, and more!
We also hosted our very first Tarot for Beginners workshop, in which our seekers received a free deck and an explanation of how to read fortunes using the art of Cartomancy — aka, card-reading divination! The practice stems from medieval France and has expanded into thousands of different deck designs since.
We hosted our fabulous small business classes and were able to help brainstorm ideas fo a number of summer business ideas for our kids and teens alike including a babysitting-duo, a tech scrapping startup, an art-selling business and more! However, because I’m terrible at taking photos myself, I may have forgotten to snap them — but rest assured, if you see some amazing flyers for kid businesses going up around town soon with the little rip-off tabs circa 1999, you’ll be able to see their hardwork in person!
Then of course we had our Saturday Morning Gardening Club! Since the BAC was actually hosting an awesome 5K and kids fair Saturday morning, we pulled our workshop into the studio but got no less dirty! Our Kits and their families made handcrafted seed balls with Great Basin wildflower seeds, which can be used to save, plant in our own gardens, or huck into random vacant lots to help spread the beauty of native Nevada wildflowers (and outcompete fox tails and cheatgrass hopefully!)
Week Three Workshop Schedule
Enough reminiscing, let’s take a look at what’s coming this week.

We know how difficult it can be to find mental health care at times (and prices) accessible to working families. That’s why our Wellness Workshops are always held in the evenings, and at the same flat-rate as our workshops, no insurance required. We have two on the books currently: an all-(big kid)ages Art-Therapy Themed Wellness Group on Mondays, and a Improv & Theater Themed Wellness Group for older elementary and up on Tuesdays on alternating weeks. Both are led by licensed therapists. Learn more by clicking on the image to the right!
As always: thank you!
Thank you for helping us on our mission to connect kids with their community and gain some cool skills and friends along the way! We couldn’t do it without you — and please, if you want to sign up but need some help covering costs, don’t hesitate to reach out. “It takes a village” doesn’t just mean keeping an eye on each other’s children at the park, or lending a hand when your neighbor is sick: it also means accepting support from others! We all benefit from living in a community where our children feel needed, safe and loved.
See you soon friends! And be sure to keep up to date with workshop offerings and new opportunities at hollowmountainworkshops.org
